Vikings win one, lose one, playoffs right around corner

By Chris Morlan

The North Posey boys’ basketball team was back on the court last Friday night for the first time in nearly a week. North Posey played at home for homecoming night against the Class 1A second ranked Barr-Reeve Vikings. Also coaching Barr-Reeve is former North Posey coach Heath Howington.

There were not very many empty seats available at the North Posey gymnasium last Friday night. Even the Barr-Reeve fans packed their bleacher section. A huge shoutout and congratulations to the homecoming king Ethan Bittner and queen Mackenzie George.

In the final minutes of the first quarter, North Posey went on an 11-2 run. North Posey led 13-9 at the end of the first quarter then the game got away from them. From the second quarter to the end of regulation, Barr-Reeve throttled North Posey to win 52-34.

Barr-Reeve wasn’t a very tall team, but they are young with only one senior on their squad. They are a school with a winning tradition that should go far in the upcoming state tournament. North Posey’s season record dropped to six wins and fourteen losses. Barr-Reeve improved their record to nineteen wins and one loss.

Braxton Neidigh led Barr-Reeve by scoring a game-high 19 points. Kierson Lengacher nailed four three-point baskets to finish with 14 points. Brayden Compton led North Posey by scoring 13 points. Trey Buecher made three three-point shots to finish the game with 10 points.
