Vikings fall to Titans in season finale

The madness is right around the corner. But before we talk about the upcoming Hoosier Hysteria. We have one more regular season basketball game left. Last Thursday night, the North Posey boys’ basketball team played their final home game along with last regular season contest against a very good Gibson Southern Titan squad.

Gibson Southern is one of the best teams in the Pocket Athletic Conference and they showed why they are last Thursday evening against the Vikings. The Titans never gave the Vikings an opportunity to ever lead in this game and easily win by the final score of 67-52.

North Posey closed out their regular season with seven wins and fifteen losses. In the PAC, the Vikings finished with four wins and eight losses good enough for tenth place in the conference. Gibson Southern has won four consecutive games to improve their record to 17-6 overall and 9-3 in the PAC good for third place.

In the first quarter, Gibson Southern jumped out to a 5-0 advantage then continued to put pressure on the Vikings finish the period with a 20-9 lead. The Titans made three three-point shots in the first quarter. Brayden Compton scored seven of the Vikings nine points in the opening period of the game.

The Vikings played a much better second quarter even though Gibson Southern outscored North Posey 16-13. Gibson Southern kept control of the matchup and never allowed North Posey to get the game in single digits. At the halftime break, the Titans led 36-22.

During the third quarter, North Posey got themselves back in the game and got within eight points of the Titans at 45-37. Then Gibson Southern finished out in the third quarter regaining a double-digit lead at 49-37. However, North Posey did outscore Gibson Southern 15-13 in the third period.

Gibson Southern extended their 10-0 run in the fourth quarter to then lead 55-37. The Titans led by as many as nineteen points in the fourth quarter at 61-42. North Posey continued to fight back in this game but Gibson Southern was too much. The Titans went on to win this matchup by fifteen points.

There were some great individual performances in this game. Brayden Compton finished with a game-high 22 points. Kolton Schmitt of Gibson Southern also scored a game-high 22 points. Knoxx Lamb for the Titans finished with 21 points. North Posey junior Cru Wilzbacher scored a career-high 11 points.

This was the first loss of the season when North Posey scored over 50 points in a game. Previously, the Vikings were 6-0 in the season, scoring over 50 points. When the Vikings scored under 50 points in a game. They have one win and fourteen losses.

The North Posey Junior Varsity team played their final game of the season against the Gibson Southern Titans last Thursday night at home. Gibson Southern did not miss many shots in this contest and defeated North Posey by the final score of 64-53.

In the first quarter, Gibson Southern came out on fire, scoring 26 points in the first seven minutes of the game. At the end of the first period, Gibson Southern led big 26-13. The Titans continued at that same pace in the second quarter, outscoring the Vikings 16-11 to take a 42-24 lead to the halftime break.

North Posey played a great second half. Technically, if you only counted the second half as the final score for this game. The Vikings outscored the Titans 29-22. Both schools each scored eleven points in the third quarter with the score then at 53-35 in favor of the Titans.

Trailing by as many as eighteen points going into the fourth quarter. North Posey fought back and cut the deficit down to eight points at the end of this contest. That was the closest the Vikings got back in the game until Gibson Southern finished the matchup winning by eleven points.

Viking freshmen Hank Lilly scored a game-high 21 points. Will Barton scored 13 points for North Posey. Clayton Gries led Gibson Southern by scoring 17 points. Elijah Warner scored 11 points for the Titans. North Posey junior varsity team finished their season with ten wins and twelve losses.
