Summary:

North Posey Junior High School is a public middle school serving grades 7-8 in Poseyville, Indiana, part of the highly-ranked MSD North Posey County Schools district. This school has consistently performed at a high level, ranking 25th out of 480 Indiana middle schools and earning a 5-star rating from SchoolDigger.

North Posey Junior High School stands out for its strong academic performance, outpacing both the state and its own district on ILEARN assessments in English Language Arts and Math. In the 2024-2025 school year, 63.23 percent of students were proficient or better in ELA, compared to 60.68 percent for the district and around 40 percent statewide. In Math, 52.02 percent of students were proficient, higher than the district’s 66.97 percent. The school also has relatively low chronic absenteeism rates, ranging from 8.5 percent to 19.2 percent, lower than the 17.8 percent seen at nearby schools. Additionally, North Posey Junior High has a lower percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch, between 28.25 percent and 37.39 percent, compared to 40-67 percent at neighboring schools.

While North Posey Junior High School is part of a highly-ranked district, it often outperforms the district’s overall performance, suggesting the school may have additional factors contributing to its success. When compared to nearby schools, North Posey Junior High stands out for its higher academic achievement, lower chronic absenteeism, and lower free/reduced lunch rates. This indicates the school may have effective practices or a more advantaged student population.

However, the school’s Math proficiency rates are lower than its ELA proficiency, representing a potential area for improvement. Additionally, the school’s chronic absenteeism, while lower than nearby schools, still represents a significant portion of the student population and could be an area of focus.
